Special update for Happy Mondays Golf on 26 October

You should all have received Keith Melia’s email update on Friday 23 October. Just in case you didn’t, here is the key section which will apply to Seniors who take part in Happy Mondays golf from 26 October until further notice:

Multi-mat / Fairway mat – Local Rule – (For General play and casual golf)

Playing from general play areas cut at fairway height below, there are two options available:

  • Play the golf ball from a multi-mat (as described in the local rule for competition golf)
  • Mark the position of the golf ball, lift, clean if required and place the golf ball in the rough at the nearest point, no nearer the hole

When the golf ball comes to rest in general play areas of rough, there are three options available:

  • Play the golf ball as it lies
  • Mark the position of the golf ball, lift clean and drop in the rough within 1 inches of the original position of the golf ball and no nearer to the hole
  • Mark the position of the golf ball and play from a multi-mat

Happy Mondays players can also take advantage of our ‘leaves on the fairway’ rule which is included in our Strategy, Rules and Guidelines document; extract below:

If you and your playing partners all agree that the ball finished “somewhere
on the fairway, round about here” but it looks hopeless – leaves abound, and
you are sinking into the mud and somebody has probably stood on the
missing ball already. Throw down your trusty mat, place a fresh ball on it,
and play on – NO PENALTY. If however, you hit your ball into any trees area
and can’t be found in leaves, then, if no provisional ball has been played, no
score.

Please note: an update regarding the Seniors’ league (including next Friday’s Autumn league round) and other competitions will be included in the Seniors Newsletter to be issued on Wednesday 28 October. This will clarify how the introduction of the Multi-mat / Fairway mat local rule and also the fact that our rounds (not including Happy Mondays) are now ‘handicap counting’ will impact Seniors’ golf. The Strategy, Rules and Guidelines document will be updated in the coming week.

Handicaps for the Winter League

Author: Paul Foster

All members are to continue using their existing seniors’ handicaps into the coming Winter 2026 league. This includes members in both divisions 1 and 2.

Members on 19 or below will be in the 1st division. Members above this will be in the 2nd division. This ensures that (as in the Autumn League) no 1st division member has 2 shots on any hole. It also means that we should have a fairly equal number of active members competing in each division.

Your Seniors’ handicap is also used in the Happy Mondays competitions.

Should you wish to discuss the history / background to this decision made by the committee, then please feel free to have a word with our Handicap Secretary Paul Foster.

Please find a link to the latest Seniors’ handicaps here.
