Rules quiz

On a par 3, player A’s tee shot might be lost, so they play a provisional ball which is holed. Player A does not wish to look for the original ball, but Player B does go to look for it. Before Player A lifts the provisional ball from the hole, Player B finds Player A’s original ball in some thick rough near the green. What is the ruling?
A – Player A had completed the hole in three strokes as soon as the provisional ball was holed.
B – As player A did not search for the original ball, the score with provisional ball counts.
C – Player A must abandon the provisional ball and continue with the original ball.

Annual Business Meeting and Presentation Lunch – Friday 16 October
Author: Dave Craggs (Seniors Secretary)

52 members, a record for our ABM, were in attendance for excellent presentations by our Chairman Arthur Nuttall and our Treasurer, Mervyn Roberts.
The speeches were followed by presentation of trophies to the winners in attendance and an 80th birthday jumper to Nick Reynolds. The championship jumper 2026 had recently been presented to Bob Ellison who could not attend the ABM.
Apologies to members who missed the presentation due to congestion in the slow lane at Lymm Golf Club.
There followed a meal of beef hotpot, red cabbage & crusty bread followed by apple & berry crumble with ice cream.
For those who were unable to attend the ABM please find links below to the Chairman’s report, Treasurer’s report and the list of prize winners.
Autumn League – Round 4 – Friday 16 October
Reporter: Steve Bird
A healthy turnout of 46 players today for the prequel to our Annual Business Meeting, Trophy Presentation and Lunch.
The conditions were not conducive to low scoring with periodic drenching and the fairways on the lower land remaining very soggy with little or no ball roll – I suspect we shall be getting our mats out of summer hibernation very shortly !

Points of admin:
Five entrants scores were not entered on ig after the competition. If you have played please enter your score and if you have not played please withdraw from the competition.
The initial teething issues around correct handicaps for the Green tees appear to have been ironed out but quite a few incorrect handicaps were entered on cards.
You can find your correct course and 95% playing handicap on ig under Handicap Record/Calculator/Lymm 9 Minutes (Green)
New cards have been printed so please endeavour to use these and save your Yellow tee scorecards for 2027.

Following a spell of drizzle between 8 and 9 am the morning developed into a glorious autumn day with plenty of warm sunshine and minimal wind – a drink on the terrace was the order of the day.
Sixteen players took part in four teams of three and two of two.
The winners, with a score of 26.3 were the team of Alan Copeland, Steve Gosling and Dave Waggitt closely followed by Mike Bennett and Richard Yates with 25.5
Top scorer for the day was Alan Copeland with 28 with Mike Bennett scoring 27.
The winning team had departed by the time my group finished so I will distribute prize money when I return from holiday in two weeks time.
